How to choose an audio interface
Input count. One mic needs one preamp. Two people on separate tracks need two, and the moment you want to edit one voice without touching the other, separate tracks stop being optional.
Clean gain. Low-output dynamics such as the SM7B want around 60 dB of gain with no hiss. The Shure MVX2U Gen 2 exists specifically to add that gain and its own processing to a single XLR mic over USB-C.
Form factor. A desktop interface (Rode AI-1, Streamer X) sits next to the keyboard. Rack and networked units — Shure's ANIUSB-MATRIX and ANI4IN, Blackmagic's Fairlight Audio Interface — belong in installed rooms and carry Dante or MADI I/O.
What else it replaces. The Rode RØDECaster Video Core and Streamer X fold capture, mixing and streaming into the same box, which can remove a separate switcher.
