How to choose a camera bag or case

Soft or hard. Soft bags are lighter, carry more for their size and are for gear that stays with you. Hard cases — Aputure's Nova P600c Case, STORM 1000c/1200x Rolling Carrying Case, NOVA 1x1 Rolling Hard Case — are for gear that gets handed to someone else, put in a vehicle or checked onto a flight.

Fitted or generic. Fitted cases are cut for a specific fixture or system and hold it properly. Hollyland's Solidcom C1 carry cases come in 2/3, 4/6 and 8-headset versions; Aputure's are per-light. Generic foam bags suit mixed kit.

Carry type. Sling for a single body and fast access, shoulder bag for a working day, backpack for distance and stairs. Ulanzi's TP01 25L and YY038 22L cover the backpack end.

Capacity headroom. Buy for the kit you will own in a year, not the kit in your hand — bags are rarely re-bought early.

SmallRig, Aputure (mostly fitted lighting cases), Ulanzi, Hollyland and Godox make most of what is here. Where a case says Request price, we confirm price and lead time on your quote.

Questions we get asked

Hard case or soft bag?

Hard cases for anything that leaves your hands — freight, checked baggage, a rental return. Soft bags for kit that stays with you, where weight and speed of access matter more than crush protection.

Can I fly with a camera bag as hand luggage?

Most sling and shoulder bags fit standard cabin limits; check your airline's dimensions. Lithium batteries must travel in the cabin, never in checked baggage.

Are lighting cases interchangeable between fixtures?

The fitted ones are not. Aputure's rolling cases are cut for specific fixtures and kits — order the case named for your light.

Sling, shoulder bag or backpack?

Sling for one body and a lens with fast access. Shoulder bag for a working day of mixed kit. Backpack once the weight passes what one shoulder should carry, or when there are stairs.

Do carry cases for intercom systems vary by headset count?

Yes. Solidcom C1 cases are made in 2/3, 4/6 and 8-headset versions plus a hard-shell variant, so order by the number of headsets in your system.
