How to choose podcast equipment

Count the people first. One host on a desk is a solo kit — Rode's Solo Podcast Kit, or Shure's MVX2U Gen 2 and SM4 Studio Kit. Two people need two mics on separate tracks: the Dual Podcast Kit, or the SM7dB Boom Arm and SRH440A bundle. Four or more means a console.

Console or interface. A console (RØDECaster Pro II, RØDECaster Duo) puts faders, sound pads, phone-caller integration and multitrack recording on the desk with no computer in the chain. An interface is cheaper but pushes every decision into software.

Video or audio only. RØDECaster Video and RØDECaster Video S add HDMI switching, so a video podcast does not need a separate switcher. That is the decision that most changes the build.

What the kit already includes. Check whether arms, cables and headphones are in the box before adding them separately.

Rode supplies 13 records, Shure 3, Atomos 1. This collection is enquire-only at launch — 4 of 17 carry published pricing. Send your person count and city and we will confirm price, contents and lead time.
