How to choose an HDMI to SDI converter
Direction. Converters are one-way unless they say otherwise. The Micro Converter BiDirectional SDI/HDMI 12G handles both and is worth the small premium purely for not owning two parts.
Rate. 3G-SDI for HD, 6G and 12G for 4K on a single link. Buying below your camera's output rate is the usual reason a converter "does not work".
Power. Micro converters take USB power; a spare USB power supply in the bag prevents the most common on-site failure. Rack converters and Teranex units take mains.
Distribution versus routing. A distribution amplifier copies one input to several outputs. A router (Smart Videohub CleanSwitch 12x12, Videohub 80x80 12G) connects any input to any output under control, and clean-switch models cut without a glitch.
Standards conversion. Teranex Express and Teranex AV convert frame rate and format properly — that is a different job from a simple connector change, and a cheap converter will not do it.
