Build it yourself: what you need

  1. A PTZ camera.

OBSBOT Tail 2 keeps the speaker framed with AI tracking and no operator, over HDMI or 3G-SDI. Its 5x optical lens works within about 15 m of the speaker. For a longer throw, a 20x camcorder on a tripod reaches from the back but stays locked off, and the pro kit uses one on the pulpit. Bring your own only if you already have a PTZ with HDMI or SDI out.

  2. A switcher that also streams.

ATEM Mini Pro ISO: four HDMI in, hardware Ethernet stream. Extreme for eight HDMI. Television Studio HD8 ISO for SDI in a rack, recording every input to a drive. A laptop crash should not take the service down.

  3. Wireless microphones.

RØDE handheld and clip-on mics on 2.4 GHz at starter and better. They are for the stream, not the hall speakers: keep the receiver in clear sight of the speaker, keep your PA mics for the room, and bring the PA mix into the switcher so choir and organ reach the stream. In the pro kit the clip-ons go through your PA mixer on a balanced lead, and worship leads stay on the mics already on it. Rack UHF handhelds (SLX-D+) are an add-on on a quote, for a pulpit that cannot see the receiver.

  4. Intercom.

One operator at a table does not need one, so it is an add-on on a quote: Solidcom C1 for two headsets with no base station, C1 Pro as the team grows, M1 beltpacks when balcony, floor and booth all need comms.

  5. Multiview and cable.

The switcher's own multiview output goes to any display you have. HDMI under about 15 m. Past that, SDI on BNC: the Tail 2 and XA65 have it built in, so no converter at the camera.

Questions we get asked

Do we need a camera operator?

Not on a single auto-tracking PTZ. The OBSBOT Tail 2 keeps a speaker framed without a dedicated operator. Two or more cameras need one person at the switcher.

HDMI or SDI?

HDMI for a single-camera balcony run under about 15 m. SDI (BNC) for three cameras across a sanctuary — HDMI is unreliable past that length.

Can volunteers run this?

A one-camera ATEM Mini Pro ISO stream is designed for that. Three-camera SDI with a Television Studio HD8 ISO needs someone comfortable with a rack and a PA mixer, and your installer does the cable pull.

Is this buy or a quote?

All three kits show a final price: buy online, or download the quotation PDF for a committee PO. Add-ons such as a headset intercom, and a longer-zoom PTZ for a deep sanctuary, get price and lead time on a quote.
