Build it yourself: what you need

  1. One microphone per speaker, on a low-profile arm.

Two RØDE PodMics on a Zoom PodTrak P4next at two people: both mics, both headphones and the multitrack recording in one box. Four people need a six-channel console (PodTrak P8). Low-profile arms so nothing crosses the frame.

  2. Closed-back headphones or IEMs, one per chair.

IEMs stay out of frame. Sony MDR-7506 is the closed-back pick.

  3. A switcher.

ATEM Mini Pro ISO: four HDMI in, USB-C webcam out, hardware stream, and each angle as a file. Four people and three cameras is an Extreme or Television Studio.

  4. Paired key lights.

Two RC 60B Lite COBs with matching RA-D30 mini parabolics, one per chair, on air-cushioned stands. Same model, same settings.

  5. Cameras.

Every kit above Budget includes them: two bodies with clean HDMI for two people, three for a wider two-shot, three tracking PTZs at a four-person table. No overlay on the HDMI, matched white-balance. The Budget kit uses your two phones.

  6. Cables.

HDMI sized to the table. A 3 m XLR microphone cable per mic (RØDE, in the kits).

Questions we get asked

How is this different from the audio podcast setup?

Video adds cameras, a switcher, paired lights and low-profile arms so nothing crosses the frame. Audio-only shows, up to four people, are on the podcast studio setup.

Do I need a RØDECaster Video?

No on day one. An ATEM Mini Pro ISO does the cut, the record and the stream, and a Zoom PodTrak handles the audio. The RØDECaster Video S folds HDMI switching into the audio console if you would rather have one box.

What cameras should I bring?

The Starter, Better and Pro kits include cameras, and the Budget kit uses two phones. If you bring your own: two or three bodies with clean HDMI, not overlay-only, and lenses that match. A PTZ can hold a locked wide.

Why two lights instead of one?

One shared key leaves one guest washed and the other shadowed. Matching COBs with matching softboxes means every setting is copied, not re-judged.
