What is in it
Bring your own
  • your camera, with a 3.5 mm mic input
  • spare batteries and cards for your camera
  • a phone for a second, handheld angle (the gimbal add-on steadies it)
  • a mains socket or an extension lead for the second light
  • gimbal if your B-shooter works moving
  • a computer for offloading and editing

Build it yourself: what you need

  1. Two clip-on transmitters.

Vows cannot be re-shot. Godox Virso M2 (or Hollyland Lark Max 2) with one on the officiant, one on the groom, each recording its own backup. A second shooter later still uses those transmitters.

  2. A battery COB and a foldable stand.

RC 60B runs about 45 minutes at full output off its own pack — no power on the dance floor. SmallRig RA-S200 folds to 56 cm for stairs. Formals can take a SmallRig RC 220B with a 65 cm octagon on mains.

  3. A travel video tripod.

Lock the ceremony; shoot the second angle handheld. CT150 at starter; carbon AD-50 Max at pro.

  4. Wireless video, at two shooters.

DJI SDR Transmission puts A-cam on the B monitor, a 7 in Lilliput H7S. It carries 1080p.

  5. A camera and zoom, in the kit or your own.

Starter uses a Canon R50, Better two R7s, Pro two R6 Mark IIs; Budget assumes you own one. Look for a dual-card body, usable AF in a dark hall, and a 70–200 or 24–70 if you own one. A gimbal is an add-on.

  6. Power.

    VB99 under 100 Wh for carry-on; VB155 (148 Wh) needs airline approval.

Questions we get asked

How many wireless sets for a ceremony?

Two transmitters is the floor: one on the officiant for the vows, one on the groom for the responses. A third on the bride is better, not required on day one.

Do you sell a 70–200 lens?

The kits with a camera come with a general zoom, not a 70–200. Add a longer lens from the store or bring your own. SmallRig filters and step-up rings are here.

Battery light or mains?

A reception often has no power near the dance floor. The SmallRig RC 60B has an internal 48.96 Wh battery, about 45 minutes at full output. Formals can take a stronger COB on mains, such as the SmallRig RC 220B.

When do I add wireless video?

When a second shooter needs the A-cam feed. DJI SDR Transmission plus a 7 in Lilliput H7S is that hop. One shooter does not need it.
