How to choose a video encoder
Protocol. Blackmagic's 2110 IP converters speak SMPTE 2110 — uncompressed video, audio and ancillary data as separate network flows, with PTP timing and NMOS IS-04/IS-05 discovery. That is a broadcast facility standard, not an internet-streaming one. If you want to reach YouTube, you want a switcher with built-in streaming or the ATEM Streaming Bridge, not this shelf.
Direction. Encoders send, decoders receive, bidirectional units do both. The 2110 IP Mini BiDirect 12G SFP handles both directions in one small box.
SDI rate. 3G for HD, 12G for 4K on a single link. Match this to the cameras, not to the display.
Network requirements. SMPTE 2110 needs a managed, PTP-capable network with real bandwidth headroom. Blackmagic's Ethernet Switch 820 and StudioBridge 10G exist because a general-purpose office switch will not do it.
