How to choose an ATEM Mini or larger switcher

Input count and signal type. Count cameras, then add a computer for slides and a spare. ATEM Mini class units take HDMI, which suits mirrorless bodies and laptops; larger ATEM and Sony switchers take SDI, which runs further on cheaper cable and locks.

ISO recording. ATEM Mini Pro ISO records every input as its own file plus a DaVinci Resolve project. That turns a live switch into an editable multicam edit, and it is usually the deciding feature between Pro and Pro ISO.

Streaming built in. ATEM Mini Pro streams directly over Ethernet without a computer. The ATEM Streaming Bridge sends a switched feed to a remote decoder.

Control surface. Small switchers are operated from their own buttons or software. 1 M/E Advanced Panels (10, 20 and 30) and the ATEM Micro Panel exist because a real director cannot drive a show from a mouse.

Blackmagic supplies 40 of these with published prices; the ATEM Constellation 8K and multi-M/E panels are the large end. Sony's M2L-X and MLS-X1 are reference records and go through enquiry. Large switchers, camera control units and full production systems are quote-only — the Pro Desk builds the bill of materials with you.
