Build it yourself: what you need

  1. A stream deck.

    Scene changes and levels with no spare hands. An Elgato Stream Deck Neo or the 15-key Stream Deck does the job.

  2. A dynamic USB microphone on a boom arm.

    RØDE PodMic USB, with USB-C and XLR outputs and onboard processing. Desk vibration is the noise floor, so the arm is not optional. A condenser on the same desk prints the keyboard.

  3. Capture, if you use a camera.

    The RØDE HDMI to USB-C Converter turns clean HDMI into a 1080p60 webcam source with no drivers. Until then a webcam is fine. Bring your own camera: clean HDMI out, not overlay-only.

  4. A key light on a stand.

    SmallRig RC 30B or RC 60B Lite, camera-side, not on the desk — so the monitor is not the only light on your face. Add a mini parabolic for a shaped source.

Questions we get asked

Do I need Elgato to start?

No. The kits here use Elgato Stream Deck models because they come with a final price, and the Budget kit leaves the deck as an add-on until you need one. This page is built around a deck, a mic, capture and a light, not a brand lock-in.

Webcam or camera?

A webcam works on day one. The jump is a camera with clean HDMI into an HDMI-to-USB converter such as the RØDE HDMI to USB-C Converter, which appears as a normal capture device.

Why a dynamic microphone on a stream desk?

A dynamic stays usable next to a mechanical keyboard and open playback. A condenser on the same desk will print the keys.

Will this work in India?

Yes. Everything here is sold in India with a GST invoice and the manufacturer's India warranty.
