How to choose a microphone stand and mount

Thread size. Stands and booms in this category use 5/8"-27 or 3/8"-16. Most mic clips and shock mounts ship with a thread adapter; check before ordering, because the wrong thread is the single most common return.

Body diameter. Shock mounts and clips are sized to a specific mic barrel. A mount for a large-diaphragm condenser will not hold a slim pencil mic, and elastic suspension loses its isolation if the mic is too light for it.

Windscreen by model, not by size. Foam and furry windscreens are cut per capsule — the Hollyland Lark M2 and Lark Max windshields are different parts, as are Rode's WS series. Filter by your mic model.

Cables and converters. XLR-to-USB cables, TRS splitters and the Rode VXLR Pro make an existing mic work with a new recorder.

Shure makes most of these, with Rode, SmallRig and Hollyland alongside — including gooseneck bases, antenna distribution and rack hardware for installed systems. Wireless infrastructure parts are quoted so we can confirm band compatibility first.

Questions we get asked

What thread size do microphone stands use?

5/8\"-27 is the common studio and stage thread; 3/8\"-16 is used in parts of Europe and on some booms. Most clips include an adapter for the other size.

Do I need a shock mount?

If the mic is on a desk, a boom arm attached to a desk, or a floor stand in a room with foot traffic, yes. A shock mount removes low-frequency thumps that no EQ will cleanly recover.

What is the difference between a pop filter and a windscreen?

A pop filter is a mesh or metal screen a few centimetres in front of the mic that breaks up plosive air. A windscreen is foam or fur fitted over the capsule and is aimed at wind and air movement.

Will a foam windscreen work outdoors?

Only in still air. Outdoors you need a furry cover; in real wind you need a blimp with a fur cover over it.

Which windscreen fits my wireless microphone?

They are model-specific. Lark M2, Lark Max and Lark M1/C1 each take a different part, as do the Rode WS series. Filter by your exact mic model rather than by size.
