Why this kit
A condenser needs 48 V and clean gain, and a first interface is where most first studios go wrong. The NT1 Signature is sensitive enough that the AI-1's 60 dB of gain is more than it needs, so the pairing leaves headroom rather than hiss, and the combo input also takes a guitar or keyboard. The AI-1 is a single-channel, bus-powered interface, which is all a one-voice studio needs, so the desk stays clean. The mic's shock mount, pop shield and XLR cable come in its box, so nothing else is needed for the chain. MDR-7506 closed-backs are the right tracking headphone: the seal matters more than the frequency response when the mic is 20 cm away. Treatment is deliberately on the bring-your-own list, because it will improve this chain more than any upgrade inside it.
