Why this kit
This tier is built around the Sony FX30 because a cage that fits is worth more than a universal one that rotates: the 4184b kit is cut for the FX30/FX3/FX3A chassis and clears the XLR handle that comes with this FX30, so the NTG1 goes in by XLR with 48 V from the handle, rather than a 3.5 mm jack. The 18–105 mm is a constant-f/4 power zoom, which on a Super 35 body goes from a room-wide shot to a tight face without a lens change. The HT5S at 2000 nit stops you guessing exposure outdoors; it is a monitor rather than a recorder because the FX30's internal codec is already good, and it runs on its own NP-F battery. The VB99 is 98.872 Wh, deliberately under the 100 Wh airline threshold, so the power part of this kit is carry-on legal without paperwork, and it feeds the camera through the D-tap dummy battery.
